Ben Marshman

Chartered Accountant

Ben Marshman’s number one accounting tip for businesses is to take the time to set up your financial system properly from the start to save headaches down the track.

Make sure you get everything set up properly from the start such as payroll. Or if you are setting up with a new xero cloud accounting account, make sure it’s done correctly.

Setting up a business

Ben, who has worked for Kothes Accounting Group since 2015, also recommends people go to their accountant first to get help setting their business up.

“This is much easier than discovering problems down the track that need fixing.”

Ben grew up in Tathra and after finishing a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Marketing in Wollongong, worked in government positions in Western Australia before returning to his home region a decade later.

With limited marketing opportunities on the Sapphire Coast he enrolled at the Bega campus of the University of Wollongong to study the units needed to complete his accounting major.

Taking the stress out of financials

He says he loves working with numbers but also loves helping people take the stress out of their financials.

It’s important to take the fear out of financial situations. If you have gotten your financials into a bit of a mess we can work it out. We’re here to help, that’s our focus, helping people.

Ben says running a business involves having good business acumen as well as being on top of your accounting system.

“When you run a business there is a lot to think of, and you can’t be expected to know absolutely everything.

“That’s where your accountant comes in; as someone you can call to help you navigate the business world. Having this extra help and knowledge can make a huge difference to the success of your business.”
