ATO visits Bega Valley businesses
November 8, 2019The Australian Taxation Office has put out a media release with more details on its visits to businesses in the Bega Valley and South Coast during November. Read full story.
The ATO is particularly likely to visit cafés and restaurants, hair and beauty salons, carpenters and hotels and motels. Assistant Commissioner Peter Holt said the visits are designed to protect honest businesses in the region from unfair competition as a result of black economy activity.
As part of their visit, they are also hosting an information session at Club Sapphire Merimbula on Tuesday 12 November. You can register online via the link above for the following sessions:
- ATO business visits information sessions 10:30am – 11:30am and 6:30pm – 7:30pm
- ‘Tax Essentials’ session: 12:00pm – 1:00pm
Other businesses likely to get a visit from the ATO include:

✓ Building cleaning, pest control and gardening
✓ Accommodation
✓ Pharmaceutical and other store-based retailing
✓ Automotive repair and maintenance
✓ Cafes, restaurants, and takeaway food services

✓ Legal and accounting services
✓ Computer system design and related services
✓ Adult, community and other education services
The ATO will start visiting businesses the week of their information sessions. The ATO officers will carry identification so that any small businesses they visit will know they’re ATO employees.
