Rhiannon Richardson

Kothes Accounting Group accountant in Eden Rhiannon Richardson’s top two accounting tips are to keep updated with technology and stay on top of tax planning.

Technology has made many aspects of accounting a lot simpler in terms of businesses being able to keep track of their day-to-day operations, and it’s really worth your while to familiarise yourself with how technology can make life easier.

Rhiannon says it’s also important to plan ahead when it comes to tax.

If you get busy working all year and don’t look at your profit and loss, you can end up with a really big tax bill, so it’s always a good idea to plan ahead with your accountant so there are no surprises.

Coming home

It’s been a long way around to the Kothes Accounting Group Eden office for Rhiannon. Her stepfather was in partnership in Eden’s Barclay and Donaldson accounting firm, which then became Kothes, when she was growing up and going to school.

Accounting was far from her mind when she took a gap year after graduation from Year 12 at Eden High. She travelled around the world and worked in hospitality before settling in New Zealand with her partner.

She enrolled in an online accounting degree while in New Zealand and when she saw a trainee accountant position in Eden she applied, and moved back to her home town in 2014.

Trusted relationships

Rhiannon works with a variety of businesses from primary production to retail to tourism. Being involved in her community and knowing her clients is an important aspect of being able to help with their accounting, tax and business planning.

Working with an accountant who is familiar with your business goals, challenges and future plans always makes it easier to keep things on track. Having someone you can trust who has the skills and knowledge to support you is important.
